It is difficult to swing a golf club if you are in pain. You need a clear mind and if you take the club back and are waiting for the pain as you swing there is little chance that it will be smooth and uninterrupted. It probably doesn’t make sense to go out in the first place. Your time would be better spent getting treatment for the pain. If it is in the neck and shoulders then there are some simple exercises that you can do, simple stretches that if done for just a short time each day will hopefully solve the problem quickly.

The neck is soft tissue. It is far more sensitive than the shoulders that are capable of handling a workout.

Neck Tilts

You should stand up straight with your feet in the normal position Put your hands at your sides then raise your right hand, putting it on your head. At that point you should tilt your head to 45 degrees and hold the position for a few seconds. Once you return, you must do the same thing with your left hand. You can repeat that several times.

Forward Neck Stretch

If you stand up and move you head forward until your chin touches your chest you and move back to the upright position you can gently exercise you neck. You can repeat this as often as you like.

Cross-Body Shoulder Stretch

Standing with your feet apart, approximately the width of your shoulders, bend your knees slightly. Put an arm out parallel to the ground and grasp its elbow with your other hand. You then pull the extended arm across your body and hold the position momentarily. You then do this reversing the outstretched arm. You should repeat this a few times to suit yourself.

Shoulder Press

This exercise involves your holding a dumb bell in both hands and raising your arms above your head before returning your arms to shoulder height and repeat.

These are just some of the things that you can do at home at your convenience. If you are playing a friendly fourball in the afternoon you may do this as part of your warming up exercise before leaving for the course.
